I was inspired to write this piece during my work on Ravel's wonderful Sonatina. Perhaps it got its impetus from the
possibilities of utilizing the same key Ravel used in his Sonatina -  F-sharp. In any case my composition went on its own
merry way and I would say the result lies somewhere between the Prokofiev and Scarlatti persuasions. (Notes by the composer)

The Sonatina was premiered by the composer on Nov. 8, 2009 at the Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, California.
