The Serenade consists of five movements:
1. Fanfare
2. Tango
3. Amusette
4. Pastoral
5. Tarantella
Serenade for flute and guitar, composed in 1993, consists of a series of instrumental dances loosely based on the instrumental keyboard suites of Bach and Couperin, with flavors of Rossini and Shostakovich. It was premiered by Duo Trouveres (Chris Piper, flute and David Pircher, guitar) at a benefit concert for the L.A. Philharmonic at Braemar Club, Los Angeles, California in April, 1996.
